Institutional Tracker: Tracking Institutional ownership per subsector and theme in Tech
For stocks to make significant price movements, a change in interest from the large institutional money is often required. Here are the tech sectors that have yet to win over the institutions.
We’re now launching our Institutional Tracker where we will monitor and highlight significant trends and changes in institutional ownership in sectors, ETFs and their constituent stocks.
In our first overview we now highlight the sectors that have yet to win over the institutions, and how they compare in terms of insider ownership.
🤖 Hot themes like Robotics (which includes AI), Fintech and Cloud have already managed to attract high interest from the institutions.
🔋 Somewhat surprising, Blockchain stocks are still getting the cold hand from the institutions, with an average <40% institutional ownership, while other seemingly hot sectors like Batteries, are also found close to the bottom.
🔐 Cyber Security and Online Retail both enjoy relatively high shares of both institutional and insider ownership.
🛰 Agtech, Drones and Space theme stocks are also at the lower end of the spectrum in terms of institutional exposure.
⛏ For natural reasons, capital intensive sectors like Green mining, Metaverse and Robotics are also associated with low levels of insider ownership, even in small caps, as founders have often been diluted.
The selection of stocks for each sector or theme is based on the composition of stocks in the largest ETFs in the respective sector.
